Meet Dr. F.W. Kock
Dr. F.W. Kock is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in upper limb surgery and joint arthroplasty. Born and raised in Richmond, Northern Cape he brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to orthopaedic care at Zwartland Ortopedie.
Dr. Kock completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of the Free State and post graduate training at Stellenbosch University, winning the G.T. du Toit Award for his MMed research.
Hailing from Richmond, Northern Cape, Dr Kock is grounded by the roots of growing up in a farming community. His background brings a deep sense of achieving life’s balance and connecting with people that moulds a patient centered and holistic approach to his management.
Dr. Kock completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of the Free State and post graduate training at Stellenbosch University, winning the the G.T. du Toit Award for his MMed research. His medical journey has taken him across South Africa, beginning with an internship at Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) and community service at Kimberly Hospital. He returned to Cape Town to work at GSH and Worcester Hospital, where he honed his skills in trauma surgery as a medical officer.
This culminated in joining Stellenbosch University’s prestigious orthopaedic training program earning both his Mmed and Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa, FC Orth (SA), degrees Cum Laude.
Outside the hospital he is often found on the golf course, perfecting his swing. His commitment to both his work and his hobbies brining a well-rounded approach to life and health. He joins Crestcare Malmesbury with a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to orthopaedic care at Zwartland Orthopaedie.
Meet Dr. Jon Cornelissen
Dr. Jon Cornelissen, is an orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in lower limb surgery, and with international fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery. He was born and raised in Koekenaap, a small farming community on the West Coast of South Africa. He brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to orthopaedic care at Zwartland Ortopedie..
Dr. Cornelissen completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate medical degrees at Stellenbosch University, winning the Discovery Clinical Excellence Award, G.T. du Toit Award, and Advanced Orthopaedic Training Centre Best Research Award for his MMed research. He has received advanced fellowship training at the Barts Health NHS Trust in London, UK, in foot and ankle surgery.
Born and raised in Koekenaap, a small farming community on South Africa's West Coast, Dr. Cornelissen's journey into medicine began after matriculating from Hoërskool Lutzville. Initially studying Mechatronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University, he soon discovered his passion for medicine and shifted to a medical degree, earning his MBChB in 2011.
His professional path started with an internship across KwaZulu-Natal hospitals and a year of community service at Wentworth Hospital. His experience was further enriched during his time as a Medical Officer in Orthopaedics at Frere Hospital in East London, where he focused on orthopaedic trauma, arthroplasty, and paediatric orthopaedics.
Dr. Cornelissen completed his specialist training at Tygerberg Hospital's Orthopaedic Department, affiliated with Stellenbosch University. His academic excellence is reflected in his achievements, including passing the College of Surgeons of South Africa, FCS (SA), Primary Examinations and attaining the highest marks in the Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa, FC Orth (SA), intermediate exams, completing his Orthopaedic Specialisation examination, FC Orth (SA), Cum Laude.
Dr. Cornelissen is internationally published, his ’s dedication to advancing orthopaedic surgery demonstrated through his research contributions, for which he received the Discovery Clinical Excellence Award, the G.T. du Toit Award, and the Advanced Orthopaedic Training Centre Best Research Award for his MMed research.
He pursued further sub-specialisation, completing an international fellowship at the Barts Health NHS Trust (Royal London Hospital and Barts Health Orthopaedics Centre) in London, UK, in foot and ankle surgery. This experience at one of Europe’s busiest trauma centres and the UK’s largest NHS trust significantly expanded his trauma and elective surgery expertise. He is also an active faculty member of the foot and ankle sub-speciality committee of the Internationally of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT).
Beyond his professional life, Dr. Cornelissen is a devoted family man, married with two young children. He enjoys life’s simple pleasures, mastering the art of “braai”, savouring a glass of wine on the “stoep,” and staying active through running, hiking, or paddle skiing in his free time.
